A heartfelt message from our President Barbara Sheppard:

The Board (Chris Ellis, Rosie Williams, and myself), with the assistance of Lisa O’Brien from Taos Community Foundation, have been reflecting on our mission, our work, and the need to be flexible and creative, and make some changes in 2016. We live in a unique and special place, and PFLAG has, over the past 5.5 years, helped open hearts and minds. For that I think all of you who have made a difference.

I am personally grateful for the opportunities I have been afforded over these past 5 years as one of the leaders of our local chapter. I have met and become friends with many wonderful and open hearted individuals, both locally and across the country. I am also grateful for the support and encouragement I received from Annouk Ellis and others to share my own personal journey as a lesbian. It has been healing and gave me the courage to speak up an advocate for others. Most recently, I am grateful for the wisdom I am gaining and recognizing my own limitations and finding the willingness to help make necessary changes, both personally and for our chapter, so that PFLAG can continue to thrive and be meaningful in our community.

2016 offers us an exciting opportunity to reflect, reorganize, and create a plan that will keep our chapter moving forward effectively in the Taos community. Reviewing and redefining leadership roles is our top priority in 2016.

What this means is that we will not have monthly meetings, yet we will continue to be available to offer support to individuals, families, and our community during this transition time.
